An Exeter family that lost a daughter nine months ago to a drunken
driver lost a son during another car accident, police said.
Kyle Goodwin, 16, was not wearing a seat belt, and died after his Volvo
rolled off a slick road in Three Rivers last Friday, according to a
California Highway Patrol report.
Goodwin's 16-year-old passenger was not hurt, but he was wearing a seat
belt. Investigators have not released his name.
"That is why I want to remind everyone of the extreme life or
death importance of wearing seat belts," CHP officer Scott Jobingers. The
news shocked the family, which was still grieving the death of
20-year-old Casey Goodwin. She died on March 13, 2003, in Kettleman City
crash with a drunken driver.
"This is too much, they just got through their first Christmas without Casey," said Elizabeth LaMar, a family friend.
Casey and Kyle's mother, Lynne Goodwin, works for the Tulare
County Friday Night Live organization, a youth program that
encourages teens not to drink and drive. Casey and Kyle were also
active with the organization.
